Folk/Americana singer songwriter Desiree Burkett is ready to burst onto the North American music scene. Her debut EP, Straight Lines showcases Desiree's hauntingly honest vocal style alongside her melancholy Folk, Americana and understated Pop tunes. Her debut EP, Straight Lines is now available digitally worldwide.
Desiree is the youngest of 2 kids growing up in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. She knew she wanted to be in the entertainment industry at the age of 4 and often performed impromptu concerts in her living room before getting involved in children's choir and musical theatre productions.
After graduating from high school, Desiree attended Grant McEwan College and majored in Technical Theatre. When Desiree moved to Vancouver in 2010, she began working in the city’s flourishing film and TV industry as a Production Assistant. She received attention for her music while working on the set of Deadpool in 2015 when a producer asked her to record various songs for a potential film placement on another project. While working full time on the show, she spent her evenings rehearsing and arranging studio time to record additional music. The songs Walking Circles and To Your Heart were 2 of the songs recorded during this time. Through this process, she met her Manager and Co-Producer Darren Staten and the two of them have been working together ever since. A few months after Deadpool wrapped filming, Desiree moved back to Edmonton to dedicate more time to recording and co-producing her EP.
Desiree wrote 100% of the songs on her EP and describes her music as vulnerable and honest. Her songs reveal her roots in Folk, Pop, Americana, Country, and range from heartbreak to hope. Because of her music's themes and melancholy feel, Desiree has been compared to fellow Canadian Folk/Pop artist Sarah Harmer and American country/pop star Taylor Swift. Desiree's musical influences include Stevie Nicks, Amanda Marshal, City and Colour and her biggest musical influence to date, Patty Griffin.
Desiree Burkett has developed a loyal fan base on social media as new listeners continue to discover and identify with her music.
